Game 34: Die young or die trying,
You didn’t disappoint this week, Nathan. I played this game once, and I can already tell two things:
1) It’s awesome
2) I’ll be playing it some more
It’s like one of those 2D Indy 500 games where the cars are coming at you and you’re trying to dodge to the left, middle, or right. Very stylish. Cool music, although I can start to pick out some commonalities in this track and your Dragondot stuff. I think that’s your voice.
Nice work!
-John
I like the concept, and it’s been executed well. The background started tripping me out after a bit – but I don’t know how this could be changed without losing the sense of speed.
The music is actually an older song of mine (older than Dragondot) that’s been looking for a home for a while. The notional game it belonged to was actually not unlike Dragondot’s Sky (of which the flight mechanics will probably get a revisit, in a less intricate frame). I will readily acknowledge that I’ve not got a whole lot of stylistic breadth in my composition; there’s just a handful of comfortable chord progressions that I tend to stick to, and even some rhythmic patterns that tend to show up pretty often. Lately I’ve been experimenting with Famitracker, so you can expect that next week’s game will have a different sound to it, even if the underlying harmonies and such are still too familiar. :p
Also, personal top score = 1771.
My personal top score = 1900! Take THAT, game designer =P
If you stay on the outer corners, you dodge almost everything.
Nice game, Nathan.
I personally tried to get the lowest score I could, and still got 978. I wonder if there should be a larger range possible?
It was short and simple. It’s very similar to number 16, warped, except down, instead of sideways. So, it felt old and done to me. I like the music though.
It is possible to score under 900. You have to take advantage of some of the tricky physics, but I managed a 550, and I think below 500 is possible.
1445 top score, but that was when I was trying for a “lowest” score. It is nice that the game is so flexible. thanks
