As abstract as this game is, it was indeed inspired by the title – “Neutronium Verge” brought to mind two things for me: density and thresholds. So I thought about a puzzle game about fitting things together densely, and something suddenly happening once a particular threshold of density was met. This is the result.
This game’s title was provided by Matt Kurtz.
Game 36: Neutronium Verge,
Personal top score: 137.
Got 160 after a few tries. Real fun, seems like there’s a surprisingly large number of tactical options as far as placement goes. Love the music as well.
Excellent puzzle game, it was a bit hard at the beginning, then I leaned to play, only did near 100 points however
Scored 194 that time – I switched from trying to properly play the game to messing with it and found a surprisingly effective tactic in filling every possible tile as quickly as possible and then letting the tile spawner feed you softballs. It seems to gravitate towards always wanting to fill empty spaces, so you can easily “search’ around those few remaining while rotating rapidly for the telltale highlight that indicates you’ve found a match. Once the board is filled you just look for obvious matches and you’re pretty much set. It’s possible to get some terrifyingly huge combos in this manner.
Solid game, Nathan. Love the music. Has a great rhythm to it. I like the theme of fuel cells exploding. It ties in nicely with the explosions effects you’ve included when you clear the cells. In your progress report, it was hard to tell why some pieces disappeared at first. With your new design, it’s clear.
The timer makes it surprisingly challenging. I haven’t lasted very long playing this game, but it wasn’t unfair.
Nice work!

I’m liking it, for sure. Could you please integrate a right-click control for rotating the squares?
*Smacks forehead* I knew there was something I’d forgotten to implement! Intended to add that as an option, and missed it somehow. Need sleep now, but it’ll be a trivially easy addition tomorrow.
Changelog
* Added right- and middle-click options for rotating piece.
